City of Indio Youth Master Plan

Action Plan

Based upon the Indio Youth Master Plan, the “Action Plan” spells out specific tasks that will be addressed by the City and its Community Partners. These include the following:

• Acquire site and construct, with design input from local youth, the Indio Teen Center
• City of Indio will work cooperatively with the Boys & Girls Club of Coachella Valley on the renovation and expansion of their existing facility
• City of Indio will work cooperatively with the Indio Sunrise Rotary Club and Desert Sands Unified School District to develop a Youth Center at the former North Indio Pool site
• Community Partners, private and public, will work to expand child care options for families both prior to and after the school day
• City of Indio will renovate existing parks, acquire more parkland and develop additional parks on those sites, including a City Sports Complex
• Community Partners, private and public, will expand and enhance existing after school programs for our middle and high school youth
• City of Indio will hire a Human Services Manager to coordinate services with other agencies ( public and non-profit)
• Community Partners will develop collaborative learning communities throughout the City of Indio to complement the Strategic Plans of Coachella Valley Unified School District, Desert Sands Unified School District, and the Riverside County Office of Education
• Community Partners will create a city-wide tutorial program that focuses resources upon recognized after-school sites and students in need and will develop accessible technology programs and sites throughout the City
• Community Partners will develop an on site Health Center at the future Indio Teen Center
• City of Indio will work with Community Partners to establish transportation services for youth to access after school programs and sites
• City of Indio will recruit retail and entertainment businesses that are of interest to our youth population
