1.      Update on parks and facilities

David Ison reported the City purchased 7.73 acres in central Indio of about 43 acres

that will be part of a large sports complex that will include baseball, softball, soccer, football, swimming complex, with suggestions to add beach volleyball, frisbee and golf course around the perimeter and also house a fire station for north Indio.  About 3 weeks ago, 15 acres were purchased on Ave 49 and Monroe that will be surrounded by a Coachella Valley USD middle school.  We want to design a park with the school to compliment each other. We are about to close escrow for Teen Center, 4.1 acres, across from Indio High School.  In 2004, we had a total of 49 acres of parks and in 2005, we are increasing the total to 90 acres.  Mark Hodnick, who is the director of construction, is going through a review process for the RFP for recommending parks throughout the city to the Parks & Recreation Commission.  We are in the process of redesigning the Yucca Park, Dr Carreon Park, the north Indio park and Indian Terrace.  At this time, we have a RFQ for architecture design for the Teen Center and Senior Center.  The purchase of the MulCare facility on Aladdin and Shadow Palms Drive for the new Senior Center is being submitted to Council for approval, which is a short distance from the proposed site of the Teen Center, allowing us to have inter-generational facilities close to each other.

2.   Discuss the draft Youth Master Plan

David Ison requested that committee members review each page and comment. The committee reviewed each page and recommended changes to the draft Master Plan.

Jim Ducatte thanked David Ison for getting the Committee to this point and is looking forward to the next step.

David Ison added the next step will be to work on the revisions made today, take it to the Youth Advisory Council for comments and get back to the Committee then start recruiting people to implement the Youth Master Plan.

Trina Jellison asked what is the next phase for the Committee.  David Ison responded he assumes the Committee will continue to function.  Luciano Ramirez told him he needs to be off this Committee and suggested the new attendance director, Jesus, at Indio High School replace him and fill the remaining open slot from the YMCA.  Scott Trujillo from the WIN program has shown interest in participating.
