Glenn Southard

Under the Council-Manager form of government used by Indio, the City Council appoints a City Manager to serve as the City's chief administrative officer and be responsible for ensuring the policies of the City Council are implemented. This position is currently held by Glenn Southard. 

Mr. Southard was hired as Indio's City Manager in 2005 after 17 years of service as a City Manager for the City of Claremont. He also worked 15 years in service for several other Southern California communities. His career includes experience handling a wide range of projects and administrative responsibilities, including serving as Assistant City Manager for the City of San Juan Capistrano for three years. 

Glenn has long been active in regional, state, and national organizations. He has served as president of the California City Management Foundation, president of the San Gabriel Valley City Manager's Association, and an executive board member of the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments. Glenn has received several prestigious honors during his career, including the In-Service Training Award from the International City/County Management Association and the Harry Scoville Award for distinguished performance in public administration from the American Society for Public Administration. 

Glenn received his bachelor's degree from San Diego State University and his Master's of Public Administration from California State University at Fullerton. He also has a California Community Colleges Instructor Credential in Public Administration. Glenn lives in Indio with his wife, Gale, and has a stepson, Derick.
