Annual Drinking Water Quality Report
City of Indio Water Department
100 Civic Center Mall
Indio CA 92201

The City of Indio is please to provide you with the year 2000 Water Quality Report. The City prepared this report to inform you about water we have delivered to you over the past year. The Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974 established uniform nationwide standards for the quality of drinking water. In 1986 the Act was amended to include more stringent standards and also to increase the number of contaminants that are regulated. The California State Department of Health Services has adopted, in some instances, even stricter standards

The City uses federal and state certified laboratories for bacteriological, physical, chemical and radiological water analysis. Samples from throughout the system are collected weekly and submitted for testing by specially trained water personnel to ensure the safety of the water supply and compliance with all applicable standards.

A total of 13 sampling stations are located throughout the City of Indio and surrounding Riverside County locations at wells, on water distribution lines, at booster stations, and near reservoirs. The City of Indio water system produce 5.22 billion gallons of water (697.97 millions cubic feet) during calendar year 2000. The water was produced from thirteen underground water wells, with all wells pumping into four above ground reservoirs. The water from reservoir storage is pumped into the system.

Electric and natural gas engines power the distribution system. Pressure is maintained in the distribution system by pressure-control variable speed motors. Sodium hypochlorite solution is injected into the water supply at a residual of 1 PPM (parts per million) as a bactericide. No other treatment of City of Indio water occurs.

The highest volume of water pumped in one day during 2000 was 22.84 million gallons (3.05 million cubic feet) on August 25th. the water system began the year with 9,912 active customer service accounts and ended with 12,117 customer service accounts.
