On September 12, 2012, the City of Indio was named one of 100 BEST COMMUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE by America's Promise Alliance for the 2nd year in a row due to its commitment to youth, including the funding of The Indio Teen Center (ITC), a 12.500 square foot after school facility offering 8th-12th grade students an array of educational and recreational activities, including a Recording Studio, Internet Cafe, Game Room, TV Room and a Resource/Counseling Center. Plus, thanks to the generous support of the Indio Police Officers Association and the City of Indio's CalGRIP grant the ITC now offers an in-house Boxing Gym with a professional size boxing ring, bags and more.
The City of Indio continues its commitment of bridging generations together, which was part of their master plan when they built the Indio Teen Center and the Indio Senior Center within a block from each other. Thanks to the generous support of the Staples Foundation, the City of Indio is able to continue offering various intergenerational programs, including Kayaking, Cooking, Summer Olympics, Fishing, CA Science Center Trip and more.
