City Responding to Power Outage

Indio Cooling Center To Open at 8:00 pm

Indio, Calif., (September 8, 2011) The power outage that is currently affecting over 1.2 million Southern Californians is also impacting residents of Indio.  City public works and public safety crews are surveying neighborhoods, businesses and roads throughout Indio.   At present, there are no major reportable concerns outside of the powering needing to be restored.  City facilities are operating normally.

In cooperation with Riverside County Fire and the American Red Cross, the city of Indio will bring a cooling center online at approximately 8:00pm tonight.  It will locate at the Fullenwinder Auditorium, which is located on the Riverside County Fairgrounds (46-350 Arabia Street, Indio, Ca 92201).  The American Red Cross will be supplying food, water, and sleeping cots for those affected by the power outage.

Residents are encouraged to find shelter at the cooling center, check on pets or elderly loved ones who may be affected by the power outage, and stay safely in their homes until the power is restored.
