Learn More About The Animal Shelter

HISTORY

The City of Indio assumed responsibility for operation of the County of Riverside Animal Shelter on January 17, 2006. The shelter reopened as the ANIMAL CARE CENTER OF INDIO on July 8, 2006. Our goal is to find every adoptable animal a loving home. The Animal Care Center was created to service the residents of Indio. Although, animals may be adopted by residents from other communities the Care Center only receives animals from within INDIO CITY LIMITS. For all animal control issues please contact the Indio Police Department Dispatch at (760) 391-4051.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

The Animal Care Center of Indio has a volunteer program that offers people the opportunity to work with a variety of animals. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. This program is for those individuals that want to make a difference in the lives of animals. It is all “FOR THE LOVE OF THE ANIMALS.”

FOSTERING PROGRAM

Our fostering program provides individuals the opportunity to sponsor various animals without actually adopting them. These individuals will provide special care for the animals for a specified amount of time. This may involve caring for puppies or kittens until they are weaned.
