Water conservation as a way of life in Indio

In response to California's historic drought, the Indio Water Authority expanded its water conservation program in 2015. Since that time, IWA has invested over $2.4 million in the community to help customers conserve water through irrigation upgrade, turf removal, installation of water-efficient appliances, and much more.

In 2016 alone, 1.3 million square feet of turf was removed through IWA's turf rebates, which is equivalent to 22 football fields. This helps save approximately 75 million gallons of water per year and keep the aquifer healthy. Since 2013, IWA customers have saved 1.5 billion gallons of groundwater from being pumped from the aquifer.
