Desert Theatreworks Announces Fall Class Line Up

DESERT THEATREWORKS ANNOUNCES FALL CLASS LINE-UP

INDIO, CA (October 2, 2017) – Desert Theatreworks, in partnership with the city of Indio, offers a great selection of classes this fall for all members of the community at the Indio Performing Arts Center (IPAC). There is something for all ages and experience levels. Join Desert Theatreworks for acting and dance classes or KidsWorks. Fall programs are as follows:

KidsWorks
This children’s musical theatre workshop welcomes children ages 8-18. KidsWorks is a performance-based workshop/boot camp for youth in musical theatre, focusing on singing, acting, dancing, stage presence, teamwork and leadership. KidsWorks director, Lance Phillips-Martinez, has worked as a professional touring actor with Les Miserables. He now teaches a 15-minutes musical revue that will culminate in a pre-show performance before Desert Theatreworks’ mainstage presentation of the Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical in December – giving all participants the opportunity to perform 9 times. There is a $75.00 lab fee.

Teatro Folklor

Teatro Folklor is a beginner's theatre class using storytelling, song, dance to reflect and tell the stories of yesterday to today, from farmworkers' suffrage to the issues facing us today. In the style of Teatre Campesino, this will be a fun way to explore theatre for both beginners and experienced performers. All 8 sessions for $120.00.

Una clase de teatro para principiantes que refleja historias de la vida real de ayer y hoy en el estilo del Teatro Campesino. Aprenda sobre el thatre usando historias, las canciones, la música y la danza incluso si usted nunca ha sido un actor pero quisiera siempre hacer teatro.

Workout for Actors

All actors need to sharpen their tools and “work out” to improve their craft. This class is for actors of all skill levels. Drop in once or twice to work on a specific piece, monologue, scene or block. Or sign up for all sessions and practice creating characters, stage presence and scene interpretation. Classes are $15.00 per drop-in or all 8 for $100.00.

Folklorico Beginners Class

This introductory class in Mexican Folklorico is designed to teach the beautiful form of this traditional dance, reflecting the proper way to stomp at the rhythm of a “Zapateado” and will demonstrate the proper way to move and wave the long skirts filled with color and design. The class culminates showcasing a choreography and dance. All 8 sessions for $120.00.

Si te gusta el Folclorico Mexicano, esta clase es para ti! Esta clase esta disenada para mostrarte el bello baile tradicional mexicano con enfoque principal en aprender a zapatear, coreografia de bailable teatral y el movimiento del faldeo.
