Indio Police Department Welcomes New Assistant Chief Brian Tully

The Indio Police Department is pleased to welcome Brian Tully as its new Assistant Police Chief, overseeing Field Services. Assistant Chief Tully began his new post January 8, 2018.

Assistant Chief Tully joined the Indio Police Department after serving as a lieutenant at the San Bernardino Police Department in Patrol Operations. As lieutenant, he managed patrol personnel responsible for handling calls for service and conducting proactive patrol activities.

Raised in San Bernardino, Assistant Chief Tully graduated from San Gorgonio High School. He attended California State University – San Bernardino, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He is a graduate of the West Point Leadership Program, California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Command College, as well as the FBI National Academy. He also completed his Masters of Business Administration degree from Washington State University.

Assistant Chief Tully began his career in law enforcement with the San Bernardino Police Department in 1994. He has worked a wide variety of assignments during his career including patrol officer, distressed neighborhood grant team officer, K-9 officer, and SWAT officer.

Following a promotion to the rank of detective in 2004, he was assigned to Burglary, Fraud and Forgery. In 2006, he was promoted to sergeant. In 2011, Assistant Chief Tully was promoted to lieutenant and was assigned as the watch commander, northeast area commander, K-9 unit lieutenant, investigations lieutenant and as the professional standards unit lieutenant. He has also managed the Property/Evidence Unit, Forensics Unit and Crime Analysis.

In addition, Assistant Chief Tully has served his community in other capacities as well, including the San Bernardino City Unified School District’s Restorative Youth Court and Steering Committee; the International Footprint Association; and Arrowhead United Way.

Assistant Chief Tully has been married for over 25 years and has 3 teenage children.
