Roxanne M. Diaz
Roxanne M. Diaz is the City Attorney for the City of Indio and is the with the firm Richards, Watson & Gershon. Ms. Diaz has almost twenty years of experience in local government law. Ms. Diaz is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, Mexican-American Bar Association, Latina Lawyers Association and the Westside Urban Forum.
Ms. Diaz earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Fullerton and a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Hastings College of Law. At Hastings College of Law, Ms. Diaz served on the staff of the Hastings Women's Law Journal. In 1994 she was the Managing Editor. She was an extern to the Honorable Thomas E. Carlson, Chief Justice of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California in 1995.
Ms. Diaz is a member of the 2015 California Special Districts Association Professional Development Committee. She is past president of the City Attorney Association of Los Angeles County and previously served a two-year term on the League of Cities Legal Advocacy Committee. She also serves on the Board of Trustees for The John Thomas Dye School, which is located in Los Angeles.
The City Attorney is appointed by the City Council and provides legal services to the City, Redevelopment Agency, Indio Water Authority and the Coachella/Indio Waste Transfer Station Authority. The firm of Richards, Watson & Gershon, has been contracted by the City Council to provide services ranging from attending all regular City Council meetings, Planning Commission meetings, and other meetings as required. They are also responsible for preparing necessary legal documents, performing legal research and rendering legal opinions.
