Lupe Ramos Amith was born and raised in Indio and has served on the Indio City Council since 2004. She served the City as Mayor from 2007- 2008, 2010-2011, 2014-2015 and 2018- 2019.
Lupe Ramos Amith has deep roots in her community. Her parents were immigrants working in the agricultural community, and she attended Indio High School. She earned an Associate of Liberal Arts degree from the College of the Desert and received her Non-Profit Advanced Certification from University California Riverside. She also has an extensive background as a businesswoman, community advocate, non-profit executive director, and volunteer. She has chaired numerous committees and sat on multiple boards on behalf of the residents of Indio. Councilmember Ramos Amith is no stranger to working with teams, elected officials, and appointed individuals to achieve goals for the common good.
While Lupe is devoted to serving the City of Indio, she also understands the challenges facing the greater region and how Indio’s concerns and challenges relate to the wider community. Her public service includes holding regional appointments on the Southern California Association of Governments, the California State Legislature 42nd Assembly District Manager and the National Latino Congressional Committee. She has been deeply immersed in other local organizations as well. She served as the Worthy Matron for the Coachella Valley Order of the Eastern Star and the Membership Chair for GFWC Woman’s Club of Indio.
Additionally, Lupe has worked diligently to ensure the implementation of many infrastructure project budgets that have benefited our region such as the Jefferson Street inter-change, the CV Link, the City of Indio’s Street rehabilitation project, the Park Master plan improvements, the new Public Safety campus and two new Fire stations. These total project values have exceeded a billion dollars and have greatly enhanced the landscape of our community.
Lupe continues to dedicate her time to the business community as a Bilingual Business Consultant for the Small Business Development Center while overseeing the day-to-day activities of her small businesses. Lupe and her husband, Gad (a retired Fire Chief serving 35 years with CalFire) are proud parents of 6 adult children and grandparents to 6.
Councilmember Ramos Amith continues to put her experience to use in her City Council duties where she is a consistent advocate for balanced budgets and responsible spending.
