The City of Indio is revitalizing its downtown with major improvements to alleviate flooding and enhance the quality of life for residents and businesses. The project includes new drains, underground stormwater pipes, curb extensions, and rain gardens along Oasis Street, Requa Avenue, Smurr Street, and Jackson Street. In addition, landscaping will be added to Smurr Street, Requa Avenue, and Mashall Parkway along with a raised crosswalk on Miles Ave to enhance pedestrian safety.  

The project also includes the beautification of Oasis Street that will feature new asphalt, landscaping, street amenities, furniture, curb extensions, medians, sidewalks, streetlights, signing & striping, pavers, and decorative pavement!

Every effort will be made to minimize any disruption to the community, but because the project includes underground work, restrictions will occur adjacent to the contractor’s work area. Flier notices will be delivered to businesses and residents for location-specific work and impacts. Below is a list of what to expect during construction:

• NOISE & VIBRATIONS – Residents and businesses may experience work related noise and vibrations. 
• TRAFFIC CONTROL – Drivers should expect temporary lane closures and detours as work passes through these areas. Please reduce speeds and use caution when travelling through work zones. 
• SIDEWALK ACCESS RESTRICTIONS – Areas of the sidewalk may be restricted adjacent to the contractor’s work and closed while being improved. 
• PARKING RESTRICTIONS – Parking will be restricted in the construction zone. Watch for no parking signs posted on the street. 
• DRIVEWAY ACCESS RESTRICTIONS – Temporary access to driveways may be restricted. 48-hour advanced notice will be given to affected businesses and residents in these situations.  
• WATER & SEWER INTERRUPTIONS – Access to water and sewer may be temporarily interrupted. Affected businesses will be notified in advance by the Indio Water Authority.
