The City’s Sustainability Department works to protect and preserve our environment while supporting a thriving community. This department is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and enforcing the City’s sustainability programs and environmental initiatives.
Our work focuses on:
- Air Quality Improvement – Supporting programs and policies that reduce air pollution and promote cleaner air throughout the community.
- Recycling and Waste Collection – Scheduling waste reduction, recycling, and responsible disposal events to reduce landfill use.
- Greenhouse Gas Reduction – Implementing strategies that lower emissions and help address climate change.
- Stormwater Pollution Prevention – Managing programs that protect local waterways by reducing stormwater runoff pollution.
Sustainability at Home
Small, practical changes at home can create meaningful benefits for both the environment and monthly utility savings. Through City programs and available resources, residents can explore simple, manageable options such as:
- Composting food and yard waste
- Installing drought-resistant landscaping
- Upgrading to energy and water-efficient appliances
With access to helpful information, City-supported programs, and potential financial incentives, residents can take steps that fit their needs while contributing to broader community sustainability goals.
For questions about sustainability programs and resources, please contact the Environmental Programs Coordinator at 760-625-1815.
Together, we can continue building a more sustainable future for our city.
