Weekend redistricting workshop offered by the City of Indio

In response to community input, the City of Indio is offering an additional opportunity for feedback and education regarding proposed redistricting boundaries by holding a weekend workshop on Saturday, January 8th at 10 a.m.

The public workshop also provides a chance to review the online mapping tool available for residents to draw proposed boundaries in Indio, and get questions answered by city staff and its redistricting consultant.

The workshop will be held at the City Council Chambers (150 Civic Center Mall) AND livestreamed on the City of Indio’s website, Facebook and YouTube pages. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend virtually through those platforms, or provide comments via ZOOM Webinar Telephone or Videoconferencing. Those attending in person will be required to wear masks in accordance with California Department of Public Health guidelines. Zoom conferencing information for the January 8th workshop is available at the City’s dedicated redistricting webpage, and here:

Those who are unable to attend Saturday’s workshop are also invited to get involved by drawing their own proposed map before Jan. 21, or by attending a future public hearing during a regularly scheduled Council meeting:

• Jan. 19, 2022 at 6 p.m.
• Feb. 2, 2022 at 6 p.m.
• March 2, 2022 at 6 p.m.

Online instructions for mapping are available here. Instructions must be followed so the map can be submitted properly. When the proposed map is complete, creators must email to notify project coordinators. Notifications are not made automatically. A map of the City’s current council districts is available here.

For more information about redistricting contact the City Clerk at (760) 391-4006 or email Visit City of Indio - Redistricting Process 2021-2022 to stay up to date, and see guidelines for how district lines are generally adopted. Redistricting determines which neighborhoods and communities are grouped together for the purposes of electing a councilmember who will best represent their communities. This process must be completed by April 17, 2022.
