At the Indio City Council meeting on July 5, 2017, Balvina Ramirez took the oath of office as the newly appointed City Treasurer for the City of Indio. The City Council decided to make an appointment rather than hold a special election this year to fill the unexpired term of prior City Treasurer, Sharon Ellis, through November 2018. Ms. Ellis resigned effective May 1, 2017.
Ms. Ramirez is an Indio resident and is currently employed as the Director of Operations for the Associa Desert Resort Management in Palm Desert. She received her MBA from California State University, San Bernardino, and bachelor's degree in Business Administration from California State University, Fullerton. She's a Board Member for the Dr. Carreon Foundation and the current Treasurer for the Palm Desert Sunset Rotary.
As City Treasurer, Ms. Ramirez reviews and interprets fiancial reports and statements, and ensures city monies are properly managed under the city's investment and financial policies. In addition, she is a member of the Investment Committee and an ex-officio member of the Citizens' Finance Advisory Commission.
