New Street Sweeper
In a city with just one current street sweeper and a need for street cleaning assistance, the Measure X sales tax revenue will be used to help with upkeep on Indio’s streets. The total cost of $343,934.19 will purchase the much-needed equipment. In addition, a $15,000 up-fitting will be added from National Automotive Parts Association(NAPA). This was approved at the September 6, 2017 City Council/Indio Water Authority joint meeting. This additional street sweeper will give the Public Works Street Maintenance Division the capability to meet the increasing demand from the public and City Council for cleaner streets.
Staff from within the City’s Public Works Department Street Maintenance Division perform a wide array of repair and maintenance work throughout the City of Indio to its facilities and infrastructure. The new additional street sweeper will give staff the needed equipment to establish and maintain additional sweeping routes and sweeping schedules throughout the City. This will also give staff the capability to respond to emergency clean up needs, along with storm-related clean up necessities.
With the additional equipment, the City will be able to increase street sweeping from six times per month to 12 times per month. The delivery time for the new street sweeper is approximately eight months out from the date of order. Until that arrives, the Street Maintenance Division has approved renting the necessary equipment at a cost not expected to exceed $65,000, allowing the newly hired equipment operator to start sweeping City streets immediately.
