In September 2017, the City Council adopted an ordinance transitioning to district-based elections commencing with the November 2018 election. In a district-based election system, the city is divided into separate geographic districts and a Council Member is chosen by the electors residing in that district. A Council Member must be a resident of the district to which they are elected.
The City of Indio will hold its first District-based election on November 6, 2018, for the election of a Council Member for District 2, District 3, and District 4, each for a term of four years. A City Treasurer will also be elected at-large for a short term of two years.
