Lupe Ramos Amith, Councilmember

Mayor Lupe Ramos AmithLupe Ramos Amith was born and raised in Indio and has served on the Indio City Council since 2004. She served the City as Mayor from 2007- 2008, 2010-2011, 2014-2015 and 2018- 2019.

Lupe Ramos Amith has deep roots in her community. Her parents were immigrants working in the agricultural community, and she attended Indio High School. She earned an Associate of Liberal Arts degree from the College of the Desert. She also has an extensive background as a businesswoman and community activist, and volunteer. She chairs numerous committees and sits on multiple boards. She is no stranger to working with teams, elected officials, and appointed individuals to achieve goals for the common good. 

As part of her duties as a City of Indio councilmember, Lupe Ramos Amith serves on many local, state and federal committees. She currently serves in the Indio Water Authority, Indio Public Financing Authority, the Successor Agency of the City of Indio Redevelopment Agency, the Coachella Valley Animal Campus, the Imperial Irrigation District’s (IID) Consumers Advocacy Committee (ECAC), Riverside County Fair Advisory Board, the CV Regional Housing Trust Board of Directors, Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport Authority, California Joint Powers Insurance Authority, Waste Transfer Station Joint Powers Authority, and the Riverside County Complete Count Committee. Previously, she served in the Chamber of Commerce Image Task Force, the Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG) Human and Community Resources Committee, CVAG Energy & Environmental Resources Committee, CVAG TUMF Nexus Advisory Committee, the City of Indio Finance Committee, the City of Indio Investment Committee, the Waste Transfer JPA Station Authority, and the Riverside County First 5 Commission. 

As someone committed to serving her community, Lupe Ramos Amith is also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star (Coachella Valley Chapter #360), the Indio Chamber of Commerce, and the Coachella Valley Mexican American Chamber of Commerce. She also maintains memberships in several business organizations, including The Ninety Nines, Inc. of California, the Professional Education Institute Student Advisory Council, the Building Industry Association of Southern California, and the California Homeowners Association. 

Councilmember Ramos Amith has put that experience to use in her City Council duties where she is a consistent advocate for balanced budgets and responsible spending.
