Born and raised in Indio, Waymond Fermon was brought up in the public school system, before graduating from Indio High School in 1998. He attended the College of The Desert and matriculated from the College of the Desert’s first Public Safety Academy. Council member Fermon went on to the California Department of Corrections, Richard McGee Correctional Training Center, where he graduated as a Correctional Officer in October 2002. Fermon has since been employed at Calipatria State Prison (CAL) in Imperial County. He has worked various positions, whilst collaborating alongside multiple local, state and federal law enforcement agencies as an active member of the California Gang Task Force.
A product of his community and former student-athlete, Fermon has a passion for supporting local youth sport and academic pipeline programs. Fermon prides himself in outreach and community-oriented law enforcement. He has been active in numerous outreach programs throughout the Coachella and Imperial Valley such as school fundraisers, Career Day, guest speaking engagements, and youth interventions. He's spearheading an outreach program where troubled and at-risk youth experience first-hand recounts of inmates; hoping to play a pivotal and preventative role in keeping juveniles from entering the incarceration system.
Fermon is known throughout the Coachella and Imperial Valley for his activism, community service, law enforcement work and being a friend to many. As the only current African American elected official in the Coachella Valley, he prides himself as being a role model for the youth and his community.
City of Indio Council member Waymond Fermon currently serves on the Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG) Public Safety Committee, Eastern Riverside County Inter-operable Communications Authority (ERICA), Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC), and Executive Committee. Additionally, he represents District 2 in the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership (CVEP) Board of Directors, CVWD Joint Water Policy Advisory Committee and 2x2 Committees for the City of Indio and the Coachella Valley Unified School District.
