Special Message to ISC Members

Thank you for your patience and flexibility. We truly appreciate your encouragement and willingness to adapt as we do what we can as a community to best love our neighbors by staying home and practicing social distance. To stay connected with our members, the staff is conducting calls daily to make sure our members are taken care of. We encourage our community to reach out to a friend or neighbor via phone to check on them. If you need any help or want more information about supportive services, call the Senior Center at 760-391-4170. You can also see updates on our social media accounts on Facebook and Nextdoor.

We personally wanted to reach out to you regarding our current activities related to COVID-19. Please know that the well-being of our community, staff, and the larger public is our first concern. We wanted to share a few key items:

  • First and foremost, thank you. Although the Indio Senior Center is closed, our staff is still available via email and by phone.
  • Senior Nutrition Program: During the closure of the Indio Senior Center to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, Indio Senior Center Staff will be handing out healthy meals for those who are 60 years or older and are participants of the Senior Nutrition Program. Meals will be available for pick up Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Indio Senior Center.  On Fridays additional meals for Saturday and Sunday will also be provided. If you are not part of the Senior Nutrition Program you can fill out the form on site to become a participant.

***For your safety and the safety of others, beginning Tuesday, April 7th all program participants picking up meals will be required to wear a mask. Anyone that is not wearing a mask will not be able to receive a meal. You must also follow the 6 feet social distancing measures***

  • AARP Tax Services:  ALL Tax appointments that have been made for the month of April are canceled and no appointments are available for the remainder of the year. Please visit www.irs.gov to find out about free e-file tax help by typing in "free tax help" in the search bar or try "tax help for seniors".

The deadlines to FILE and PAY federal income taxes are extended to July 15, 2020.

  • Grandparent scams in the age of Coronavirus: You’ve probably heard of the traditional “grandparent scam” where scammers pose as a grandchild who has been arrested and needs funds wired immediately for attorney fees. Well, there’s a new spin on this scam. Scammers are posing as a grandchild who has been hospitalized with COVID-19 and needs funds wired immediately for medical tests. Be aware that this is a scam! Never wire money to anyone without verifying the validity of the request and identity of the recipient. Click here for more information

We hope that you and your loved ones are well, and we are more committed than ever to do our work in a way that supports our members and the community.

“Restaurants Deliver: Home Meals for Seniors”

Governor Newsom announced the launch of a “Restaurants Deliver: Home Meals for Seniors” partnership with counties, cities, and Tribes.  Through the Riverside County Office on Aging, this program will serve two purposes: to help older and other adults at high risk from COVID-19 to stay home and stay healthy by delivering three nutritious meals a day, and to provide essential economic stimulus to local businesses and workers struggling to stay afloat during the COVID crisis.  Riverside County is currently accepting inquiries from the public and businesses interested in participating in the "Restaurants Deliver" program. If you are a food business and have a delivery system in place, please visit https://www.rcaging.org/COVID-19/Restaurants-Deliver-Home-Meals-for-Seniors to fill out an interest form.  If you are an individual with a high-risk condition, please review the eligibility criteria and complete the interest form here.
