EFFECTIVE MARCH 30, 2020: Indio City Hall is temporarily closed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. City Hall will continue to offer online services and limited by appointment only services. Visit www.indio.org for more information.
We appreciate continued investment in the Indio community. We are working to continue to provide Building & Safety services and are implementing alternative service strategies. We have implemented alternative staffing arrangements to help manage the safety of our staff, our customers and the community in response to the current coronavirus pandemic. Effective March 17, 2020, we will, on a weekly basis, have alternating staff working at City Hall or in the field and from home. While we will strive to provide continued high quality customer service, we ask for your understanding and patience for any short delays or disruption in service.
Scheduling of Building & Safety Inspections
For building inspections, the Chief Building Official will limit the number of daily building inspections with consideration to staffing levels and reasonable customer service. If we are unable to complete a building inspection on the date requested, we will reschedule it for the following work day. We ask that you please be ready for the requested inspection as we will not return later and you will be required to reschedule the inspection to another day.
Inspection requests received before 3 p.m. will be performed the following work day. Inspection requests can be made by one (1) of the following ways:
1. Leave a message at (760)391-4001
2. Email email@example.com
When requesting an inspection provide the following information:
· Permit Number
· Type of Inspection
· Contact Person Name & Number
· Gate Code (If applicable)
To help insure the safety and health of City staff, there will be no Building inspections within the interior of lived-in dwelling units where a staff person has to enter the home to complete the inspection. If an inspector can gain access from the exterior and not go through the house, then that inspection will be performed.
Please note that a permit must still be applied for and received, however, an applicant will have up to 12 months from the date of the issued permit to request an inspection(s).
Online Building & Safety Application and Fee Payment Process:
To submit an online Building & Safety Application, please click here.
Following your completion of the online application form, you must pay the required application fee in order for the application to be processed. You can make your fee payment via the following link.
Please note that you will receive an email within 48 hours from the date you submit confirming the receipt of your online application.
We are working diligently to make all of our forms capable of being digitally signed and sent to us. Unfortunately, many of our forms still need to be downloaded, filled out, scanned and uploaded. To address this issue, we have opened an online upload portal for all legacy forms to be easily transmitted to city staff. Here it is.
Please contact Luis Cerros, Supervising Plans Examiner, at Lcerros@indio.org, should you have any questions.

New building construction require submittal of plans. When engineering is part of the design, plans should be prepared by a licensed professional engineer or architect. Each plan sheet should bear their stamp and wet signature. Every building permit application is required to submit three copies of plans. The only types of permits that do not require plan submittals are appliance installation or replacements.
The Forms & Fees Page will give you access to the City Standards and Application.
