The Community Development Department processes development proposals through the entitlement process, maintains the City of Indio General Plan 2020 and its implementation via specific plans, zone text, subdivision map act, capital improvement planning and environmental regulations and various other entitlement processes. It assists with redevelopment and participates in certain regional activities. This department reviews all building plans, performs all building inspections for compliance with approved plans, city, county, and state codes as well as all current building regulations adopted by the City. The City of Indio has an Industrial and Manufacturing Fast Track policy. Under this policy, industrial and manufacturing projects can be approved in as little as 45 days.

DEPARTMENT NEWS:

  • Building Inspection Summer Hours:  Due to heat & safety awareness, Building & Safety has changed the inspection hours to help facilitate inspections. Please be aware of the changes and make any necessary adjustments to accommodate your work schedule.

  • January 15, 2020: The City of Indio, California is soliciting proposals in order to identify qualified individuals, firms or teams of firms to provide professional services to the City for the preparation of a Fiber Master Plan for the City of Indio.  Fiber Master Plan (FMP) Request For Proposals
  • The Building & Safety and Planning Counters will be closed daily between the hours of 12:00PM to 1:30PM
  • On November 6, 2019, the Indio City Council adopted the 2019 California Building Codes and 2019 California Fire Codes. These Codes will go into effect in the City of Indio beginning on January 1, 2020. Please make note of this effective date for the new Codes and plan accordingly.
