The Indio Police Department is among 15 law enforcement agencies nationwide that are part of the 21st Century Policing Task Force. The initiative focuses on areas such as technology, trust with the community, effective officer training and departmental policy and oversight to create a transparent bond with our community.   Candidates file an application online.

An extensive background investigation will be conducted. Candidate meets with background investigator and reviews PIQ and PHS and schedules a Polygraph examination.

  City of Indio Human Resources staff review the application for minimum qualifications. A polygraph exam will be administered.
  Candidates complete Pre-Investigative Questionnaire. (PIQ), Personal History Statement (PHS), and 1-page Autobiography.  The Personnel & Training Sergeant will screen the candidate's documents for any disqualifying background issues.  
  Thorough background check that includes: Personal History, Criminal History, Financial Credit, Driving Record, Employment History, and References.

Recruiter administers a Physical Abilities Test (PAT) (waived for candidates enrolled in an academy) consisting of the following components:


99 yard obstacle course | 165 pound body drag | 6-foot chain link fence climb | 6-foot wall climb | 500 yard run

  Conditional job offer extended to candidate after passing background investigation.

Candidates scheduled for testing by IPD Personnel & Training Sergeant. Recruiter administers a written examination (waived for lateral applicants only). Written test comprised of  Ergo Metrics Test.

  Psychological and Medical exams will be conducted. 
  Oral interview will be conducted through the Behavioral Personnel Assessment Device (B-PAD), involving video recorded responses, which are evaluated for Experience, Problem Solving Ability, Communication Skills, Interest/Motivation, Interpersonal Skills, and Community Involvement/Awareness.   If the candidate's background is satisfactory and the candidate passes all steps of the hiring process, the candidate may be hired.
